Nice article, but, and this is just my personal opinion, way too long of a read for a HowTo. It is easy to forget steps for a program fix etc. Honestly if you think its too lengthy I got a quickfix..
I had issue that when I plugged a certain flash drive in and I clicked on it the whole computer froze for a minute and even then I coulcn't open it, it simply disappeared. I followed your steps, I added the new variable, uninstalled the bad driver and everything, restarted the computer, but the issue wasn't solved and even more, now my computer keeps freezing all the time even when said flash drive is unplugged.
Seeing that it did no good I deleted the added variable but nothing changed. I did a system restore to a point that was made a week ago, but nothing. As I start my computer, it freezes and keeps freezing with a minute long "normal" period between the freezes. Now I have been able to boot the Windows Installation, disabling the secure mode. Sadly the installation doesnt even start, but freezes right at the screen "Windows starting". According to my researches it seems like a common problem, unfortunately I did not find any solution, solving it by installing Windows 7 using UEFI.
Note: Installing with MBR is no option because the system already takes per default 4 partitions. I would like to thank you in advance for your help and effort. Looking forward to finally solve this issue.
